While there is some room to both increase the payout ratio and reinvest in the business, generally the higher a payout ratio goes, the lower a company's prospects for future growth.Īnother key way to measure a company's dividend prospects is by measuring its historical rate of dividend growth. Earnings growth has been slim and the company is paying out more than half of its earnings. Better than seeing them fall off a cliff, for sure, but the best dividend stocks grow their earnings meaningfully over the long run. It's not encouraging to see that Shoprite Holdings's earnings are effectively flat over the past five years. If earnings fall far enough, the company could be forced to cut its dividend. Stocks with flat earnings can still be attractive dividend payers, but it is important to be more conservative with your approach and demand a greater margin for safety when it comes to dividend sustainability. JSE:SHP Historic Dividend September 25th 2022 Have Earnings And Dividends Been Growing? It's positive to see that Shoprite Holdings's dividend is covered by both profits and cash flow, since this is generally a sign that the dividend is sustainable, and a lower payout ratio usually suggests a greater margin of safety before the dividend gets cut.Ĭlick here to see the company's payout ratio, plus analyst estimates of its future dividends. Dividends consumed 71% of the company's free cash flow last year, which is within a normal range for most dividend-paying organisations. Yet cash flow is typically more important than profit for assessing dividend sustainability, so we should always check if the company generated enough cash to afford its dividend. Shoprite Holdings paid out more than half (57%) of its earnings last year, which is a regular payout ratio for most companies. If a company pays out more in dividends than it earned, then the dividend might become unsustainable - hardly an ideal situation. See our latest analysis for Shoprite Holdings So we need to investigate whether Shoprite Holdings can afford its dividend, and if the dividend could grow. Dividends are a major contributor to investment returns for long term holders, but only if the dividend continues to be paid. Looking at the last 12 months of distributions, Shoprite Holdings has a trailing yield of approximately 2.7% on its current stock price of ZAR220.88. The company's upcoming dividend is R3.67 a share, following on from the last 12 months, when the company distributed a total of R6.00 per share to shareholders. Therefore, if you purchase Shoprite Holdings' shares on or after the 28th of September, you won't be eligible to receive the dividend, when it is paid on the 3rd of October. The ex-dividend date is important because any transaction on a stock needs to have been settled before the record date in order to be eligible for a dividend. The ex-dividend date is one business day before the record date, which is the cut-off date for shareholders to be present on the company's books to be eligible for a dividend payment. Regular readers will know that we love our dividends at Simply Wall St, which is why it's exciting to see Shoprite Holdings Limited ( JSE:SHP) is about to trade ex-dividend in the next 2 days.

It ties together what are essentially TextEdit files attached to calendar days. Reminisce is a lightweight journaling application for the Mac. And if you want to add video to your entries, you can also pay a one-time $10 charge. There’s a one-time fee of $30 for a single license or $50 for a “family pack” of five licenses. Even if the app shuts down, you’ll still have your entries in a fully-usable format. Everything is saved in rich text files in a non-obfuscated SQLite database for longevity. If privacy is a concern, entries can be encrypted with AES-256 encryption. Mémoires is billed as “ the easiest way to keep a journal or diary on your Mac.” Its user interface is slightly more streamlined than some of our other options, but it still contains many of the same excellent features.Įntries can be saved in multiple journals and include photos, rich text and hand-drawn doodles. The app is sold for a slightly-hefty $40. The app is built to be easy to use, so you can start journaling the second you open it, and it syncs with a MacJoural iOS app over Dropbox. You’ll find multimedia support for audio, video and images alongside a robust rich text editor, and users can create as many journals as they want to categorize their entries. Even so, it offers many of the same features as other journaling applications on this list. The user interface might look a little dated. MacJournal is a slightly older journaling application built by long-time Mac developers Mariner Software. Journey costs $12.99 for the Mac application, or you can use the free Journey.cloud web application in any browser. You can even import from Day One and Day One Classic to keep continuity. If you decide to stop using the application, you can bulk export your memories as. You can upload images and videos to your journal entries, and the location of each entry is tracked on a map. The app syncs with Google drive, and you can use Journey.cloud for updating via browser. Like Day One, the stand-alone Mac application reminds you to make daily journal entries. It’s a dedicated journaling app and is the app most similar to Day One on this list. If using a note-taking app for journaling feels odd, you can use Journey instead. The paid version is on a subscription, but unless you like media-heavy journal updates, the free version should cover your journaling needs. That’s a major strike against longevity, but the application has ease of use on lock.Įvernote apps can expand the app’s base functionality, too: pair it with Alternote to get a more minimal UI or with to pull updates and images from your social media accounts. Unfortunately, your notes are saved in an obfuscated format, so it’s hard to figure out what’s what without the application. Plus, Evernote is hands-down the best note-taking application for the Mac. You can create multiple journals and edit them on a Mac and iOS application or use the web interface if you don’t have access to the apps.Īnd since Evernote has been around for years and seems to be doing well, a sudden shutdown or change in monetization strategy seems unlikely. Rich text is fully supported, as are audio, images and even video. While Evernote is far from a dedicated journaling application, it contains many of the features you’ve come to expect from Day One. This, however, did not mean the end of antisemitism. As Europe became more secular, many places lifted most legal restrictions on Jews. This exclusion contributed to stereotypes of Jews as outsiders. At that time, leaders in much of Christian Europe isolated Jews from most aspects of economic, social, and political life. Suspicion and discrimination rooted in religious prejudices continued in early modern Europe (1400–1800). In the Middle Ages (500–1400), prejudices against Jews were primarily based in early Christian belief and thought, particularly the myth that Jews were responsible for the death of Jesus. In Europe, it dates back to ancient times. Antisemitism is an old and widespread prejudice that has taken many forms throughout history. However, the Nazis did not invent antisemitism. The instability of Germany under the Weimar Republic (1918–1933), the fear of communism, and the economic shocks of the Great Depression also made many Germans more open to Nazi ideas, including antisemitism. Anger over the loss of the war and the economic and political crises that followed contributed to increasing antisemitism in German society. Some Germans were receptive to these Nazi claims. In particular, they blamed them for Germany’s defeat in World War I (1914–1918). The Nazis falsely accused Jews of causing Germany’s social, economic, political, and cultural problems. In fact, antisemitism was a basic tenet of their ideology and at the foundation of their worldview. This means that they were prejudiced against and hated Jews. The Nazis targeted Jews because the Nazis were radically antisemitic. The Nazi German regime implemented this genocide between 19. This radicalization culminated in a plan that Nazi leaders referred to as the “ Final Solution to the Jewish Question.” The “Final Solution” was the organized and systematic mass murder of European Jews. The Nazi persecution of Jews became increasingly radical between 19. Among other antisemitic measures, the Nazi German regime enacted discriminatory laws and organized violence targeting Germany’s Jews. However, they quickly began using the government to target and exclude Jews from German society. When they came to power in Germany, the Nazis did not immediately start to carry out mass murder. The Holocaust is also sometimes referred to as “the Shoah,” the Hebrew word for “catastrophe.” It ended in May 1945, when the Allied Powers defeated Nazi Germany in World War II. The Holocaust era began in January 1933 when Adolf Hitler and the Nazi Party came to power in Germany. 1 The United States Holocaust Memorial Museum defines the years of the Holocaust as 1933–1945. The Holocaust (1933–1945) was the systematic, state-sponsored persecution and murder of six million European Jews by the Nazi German regime and its allies and collaborators. Also shown: Fermi level E F, valence band edge E V, work function W. Thus, electron affinity follows the same "left-right" trend as electronegativity, but not the "up-down" trend.īand diagram of semiconductor-vacuum interface showing electron affinity E EA, defined as the difference between near-surface vacuum energy E vac, and near-surface conduction band edge E C. For example, E ea actually increases consistently on descending the column for the group 2 data. In group 18, the valence shell is full, meaning that added electrons are unstable, tending to be ejected very quickly.Ĭounterintuitively, E ea does not decrease when progressing down most columns of the periodic table. This is caused by the filling of the valence shell of the atom a group 17 atom releases more energy than a group 1 atom on gaining an electron because it obtains a filled valence shell and therefore is more stable. The electron affinities of the noble gases have not been conclusively measured, so they may or may not have slightly negative values.Į ea generally increases across a period (row) in the periodic table prior to reaching group 18. Chlorine most strongly attracts extra electrons neon most weakly attracts an extra electron. Atoms whose anions are more stable than neutral atoms have a greater E ea. Generally, nonmetals have more positive E ea than metals. Main article: Electron affinity (data page)Īlthough E ea varies greatly across the periodic table, some patterns emerge. Since almost all detachments (require +) an amount of energy listed on the table, those detachment reactions are endothermic, or Δ E(detach) > 0.Į ea = ( E final − E initial) detach = Δ E(detach) = −Δ E(attach). If the same table is employed for the forward and reverse reactions, without switching signs, care must be taken to apply the correct definition to the corresponding direction, attachment (release) or detachment (require). This expression does follow the convention Δ X = X(final) − X(initial) since −Δ E = −( E(final) − E(initial)) = E(initial) − E(final).Įquivalently, electron affinity can also be defined as the amount of energy required to detach an electron from the atom while it holds a single-excess-electron thus making the atom a negative ion, i.e. The usual expression for calculating E ea when an electron is attached isĮ ea = ( E initial − E final) attach = −Δ E(attach) Negative values typically arise for the capture of a second electron, but also for the nitrogen atom. In this case, the electron capture is an endothermic process and the relationship, E ea = −Δ E(attach) is still valid. However, if the value assigned to E ea is negative, the negative sign implies a reversal of direction, and energy is required to attach an electron. The relation between the two is E ea = −Δ E(attach). Confusion arises in mistaking E ea for a change in energy, Δ E, in which case the positive values listed in tables would be for an endo- not exo-thermic process. It is the word "released" within the definition "energy released" that supplies the negative sign to Δ E. The positive values that are listed in tables of E ea are amounts or magnitudes. Electron capture for almost all non- noble gas atoms involves the release of energy and thus are exothermic. For any reaction that releases energy, the change Δ E in total energy has a negative value and the reaction is called an exothermic process. To use electron affinities properly, it is essential to keep track of sign. Together they may undergo charge-transfer reactions. Another example, a molecule or atom that has a more positive value of electron affinity than another is often called an electron acceptor and the less positive an electron donor. Other theoretical concepts that use electron affinity include electronic chemical potential and chemical hardness. Mulliken to develop an electronegativity scale for atoms, equal to the average of the electronsĪffinity and ionization potential. This property is used to measure atoms and molecules in the gaseous state only, since in a solid or liquid state their energy levels would be changed by contact with other atoms or molecules.Ī list of the electron affinities was used by Robert S. Measurement and use of electron affinity 4 "Electron affinity" as defined in solid state physics.1 Measurement and use of electron affinity. There has also been examples of jurisdictions wherein a significant portion of GDP is being spent on altering the primary sources of revenue towards tourism, as has occurred for instance in Dubai. Individual low-price or even zero-price overnight stays have become more popular in the 2000s, especially with a strong growth in the hostel market and services like CouchSurfing and airbnb being established. This, together with the vast clean-up operations, stopped or severely hampered tourism in the area for a time. Thousands of lives were lost including many tourists. Also, on 26 December 2004, a tsunami, caused by the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake, hit the Asian countries on the Indian Ocean, including the Maldives. There have been a few setbacks in tourism, such as the September 11 attacks and terrorist threats to tourist destinations, such as in Bali and several European cities. Some sites have now started to offer dynamic packaging, in which an inclusive price is quoted for a tailor-made package requested by the customer upon impulse. This is facilitated by internet sales of tourist services. There have also been changes in lifestyle, for example some retirement-age people sustain year round tourism. The WHO estimated in 2009 that there are around half a million people on board aircraft at any given time. The developments in technology and transport infrastructure, such as jumbo jets, low-cost airlines, and more accessible airports have made many types of tourism more affordable. For example, some people prefer simple beach vacations, while others want more specialised holidays, quieter resorts, family-oriented holidays, or niche market-targeted destination hotels. Tourists have a wide range of budgets and tastes, and a wide variety of resorts and hotels have developed to cater for them. There has been an up-trend in tourism over the last few decades, especially in Europe, where international travel for short breaks is common. In the United States, the first seaside resorts in the European style were at Atlantic City, New Jersey and Long Island, New York. In Continental Europe, early seaside resorts include: Heiligendamm, founded in 1793 at the Baltic Sea, being the first seaside resort Ostend, popularised by the people of Brussels Boulogne-sur-Mer and Deauville for the Parisians Taormina in Sicily. We are a drug free workplace, with pre-employment drug and alcohol screening required.Mass tourism developed with improvements in technology, which allowed the transport of large numbers of people in a short period of time to places of leisure interest, so that greater numbers of people could begin to enjoy the benefits of leisure time. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees. Living Earth is an equal opportunity employer.
The Pro Matte product looks a bit more makeup-y, although I really like how lightweight it feels and how it dries down on the skin without powder. The finish is more natural, but not too radiant or oily looking. Saying that, I haven’t noticed much illumination from the latter one either. Girl Pro Matte Foundation ends up looking more matte on the skin than the Pro Coverage one. It won’t come as a surprise when I say that the L.A. I know that full coverage can mean different things for different people, but you can definitely get to a solid medium without having to add layers upon layers. One layer of each foundation is usually enough for me to even out the complexion and mask minor imperfections. When it comes to the coverage, both products are described as medium to full and I find it to be quite accurate. It’s pretty much a foolproof application with a blending sponge and the Clarisonic brush (these are the only methods I use for foundation application). The Pro Coverage foundation glides on the skin like a dream and blends within seconds. However, it’s not by any means terrible and I do like how it goes on. You do need to work with the product fairly quickly to prevent it from getting patchy. On application, I feel like the Pro Matte is a but thicker and takes longer to blend, but it could be because of a matte finish which generally tends to cling onto the skin more. Interestingly enough, they also have a very similar consistency that’s somewhere in between runny and really thick. The applicationīoth foundations come with a pump, which is really great. It’s also worth noting that the Pro Matte foundation comes in 14 shades and the Pro Coverage in 16 colors and it seems like it has a nicer spectrum for darker skin tones. That’s definitely something to be mindful of when you’re buying online. I picked Beige and it’s a good match, although a bit on a yellow side. The Pro Matte line is much easier to navigate with shades like Ivory, Bisque, Beige and Natural (to name the first four). I ended up buying a white shade as well to create my custom color. It may match me closer to the end of summer when I’m really tanned, but the chances of that are rather low. My skin is light, but not fair so I picked the color Natural and it’s waaaay too dark. Looking at the Pro Coverage selection, the first four shades are White, Fair, Porcelain and Natural. What it means is that finding a corresponding shade is not as straightforward as it should be. The first thing I’ve noticed when comparing the two is that the shade ranges don’t match. Girl Pro Matte and Pro Coverage foundations, shall we? Girl foundations – one is fairly new and the other one has been around for a while now and I’ve heard good things about it. I have a bunch of favorites from higher end brands, but it’s always great to find cheaper alternatives and save cash, right? To start off, I am going to compare two L.A. My goal is to discover great affordable foundations for dry skin. Peterson, who is the neighbor, and is captured.
